Kemp

Kemp

Kemp fibres are short, brittle, chalky fibres that often don’t take dye and can cause uneven colour in finished fabric. They’re common in certain breeds or in older sheep. For example, a beautiful Merino fleece with kemp scattered through it may still be usable, but won’t attract top value. Kemp is a type of contamination and is generally avoided in high-quality lines.
